The Signing Of A Permanent Ceasefire In Libya Opens The Way To A Tough Political Negotiation

Representatives of the two opposing parties in Libya – the Government based in Tripoli and the Parliament based in Tobruk (in the east of the country) – have sealed a permanent ceasefire agreement in Geneva on Friday. The signature implies as a more concrete and difficult element to execute the departure of all foreign mercenaries within 90 days. Tripoli is supported by Turkey, which has deployed Turkish soldiers and officers on the ground, has subcontracted Syrian mercenaries and trains Libyan forces. And the eastern faction, whose most visible head is Marshal Khalifa Hafter , is supported by Russia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates. In his field there are thousands of Russian mercenaries from the Warner company – never recognized by the Kremlin – and also Sudanese.

The acting UN representative for Libya, Stephanie Williams, mediator of the negotiations, declared at a press conference in Geneva: “This is a complete and permanent national agreement with immediate effect.” Both sides had agreed on Wednesday to open all roads and air connections . And Williams declared at the time to be very optimistic about the signing of a permanent ceasefire. Now it remains to negotiate, among other broad lines, the creation of a unity government and the assignment of senior positions in the main financial institutions of the country. The next talks between the two sides will be held in November in neighboring Tunisia.

In fact, since June there had been no more confrontations between the two sides. And in August another ceasefire had been signed in Tunis , with representatives from both sides in Tunis. But the country with the largest oil reserves in Africa continues to attract the interest of many powers with competing interests. Turkey continues to consolidate its presence in the Libyan base of Watiyah. And it’s hard to believe that Russia will easily renounce the enormous influence wielded by its 2,500 mercenaries. That makes some analysts show moderate optimism and caution about the future.

“Today’s ceasefire is not an earthquake, as there has not been a major exchange of fire since June. And there has already been another ceasefire announced on August 21 by representatives of the two sides. But the important thing is that the UN has found quite a positive negotiating dynamic with its Libyan and foreign counterparts. If the application of what has been signed continues rigorously, the UN may reach the goal before the end of the year. A crucial step will be the creation of a national government recognized throughout Libya, ”says Jalel Harchaoui, a researcher at the Clingendael Institute in The Hague, by phone.

For his part, Wolfram Lacher, an analyst at the German Institute for International and Security Affairs, tweeted a message in which he indicated that the text of the agreement provides few details and there are no references to specific zones of demilitarization.

The intervention of the international community has been key in bringing the negotiations to a successful conclusion. One of its great promoters was the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, who organized the Berlin Conference in January , where the main heads of state with influence over Libya met. Among them were the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the Turkish, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The latter shed a veil of hopelessness over the firms on Wednesday. He declared that the agreement does not seem “reliable” to him, because it had not been signed “at the highest level. “Time will tell if it will last. For me [the agreement] lacks credibility, ”he said.

Negotiations to lay the foundations for peace were divided in Berlin into three fields: economic, political and security. Security was entrusted to the 5 + 5 Joint Military Commission, with five Libyan representatives from each side. This commission has been in charge of signing the ceasefire, after four rounds held since February in Geneva. Eight months of discussions have been necessary to initiate – or at least promise – the eviction of the mercenaries in Libya.

Losing Millions to Cryptocurrency Addiction

People all over the US have lost millions of dollars exchanging cryptocurrencies. Mike is one of them. He does not want to reveal his identity because he is still getting treated at one of the very few clinics in the country that treats people obsessed with gambling on cryptocurrencies.

Mike bought Bitcoin, the most popular cryptocurrency, for the first time in 2017. He did not have a big until a few years later. That is when his trading obsession soared out of control.

“I can pinpoint the exact moment it became a problem,” Mike said. “I had been eroding the sum I put aside, but I entered a trade, and I was willing to risk that last amount I had. I ended up making back pretty much everything I lost in a single trade. The feeling was one of absolute euphoria.”

Mike said that this high win, combined with the difficulties he was facing in his personal life and marriage, led to an addictive gambling cycle. He became in charge of millions of dollars. Soon, he started trading money that did not belong to him, hoping that his first success would be repeated.

“The first time I took it, I lost it all in about 20 minutes one night. The market moved very rapidly, and I liquidated everything. It was about 2 am. I went back to bed and had to lie down next to my wife. She had no idea what I had been up to,” Mike said.

Mike was soon facing criminal charges for embezzlement. However, with the help of his family, he was able to pay back $2.5 million to his employer. He is now getting treatment for his cryptocurrency addiction.

But What Is Cryptocurrency?

Cryptocurrency is digital money that is not issued by a bank. You can trade and invest this currency just like any other. The entire process is virtual, and there are no barriers to entry.

However, the cryptocurrency market fluctuates a lot because of the absence of regulations and can go up very fast. The total value of all cryptocurrencies as of May 30, 2021 is $653 billion. Thousands of people in the United States hold these virtual currencies.

Since the cryptocurrency market is so volatile, when you win, you win big. When you lose, you hit rock bottom!

The Worst Type of Addiction

According to specialists, cryptocurrency addicts display the same kinds of behavioral addictions as addicted gamblers and sex addicts. There are no figures for the number of people in the US that are currently addicted to cryptocurrency trading, but the cryptocurrency addiction is clearly on the rise.

“There are so many people out there that are trading cryptocurrency that are making money, and they’re telling everyone that they’re making money. We are not hearing from the people that are losing money,” he said.

Sex addiction can be conceptualized as the compulsive engagement in sex despite negative consequences. Moreover, it is a behavior that is emotionally distressing rather than fulfilling. While not always recognized as a legitimate diagnosis, sex addiction has real consequences, including a negative impact on relationships and well-being.

The Horrendous Guilt

It is not just the crypto market that can cause problems. Even the technology that enables cryptocurrency trading is infamously complicated. If you are not careful, you can easily invest in a scam without knowing about it.

Amy was working in IT when her father died a few years ago. She heard about cryptocurrency and thought it was a once-in-a-lifetime investment opportunity. However, it turned out to be a scam. She lost over $250,000.

Amy wants to make people aware of the risks of investing in cryptocurrency. She warns those who do not understand the technology to stay away. She says that if anyone wishes to invest but does not know or understand the technology, they are just gambling and taking a very high risk.

It’s Not All Bad

Cryptocurrency trading is not all bad. For some people, the investment has paid off really well.” according to cryptocurrency consultant, Scott Jason Cooper. instance, Miguel has seen a fantastic turnaround and profits. He is a freelance musician, and his earnings took a hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Gigs came to an end, schools closed, all my sources of income completely vanished,” Miguel said.

When lockdown hit last year, Miguel saw that the market for cryptocurrencies was growing, and he decided to invest. Even though the economy was challenging, one year later, he is cheerful. “It’s been a really great year of these assets increasing in value to the point where, at least for the short-term, I’m not going to have any financial worries. If I could have told myself last year that I’d have this sort of reserve, I don’t know what I’d think. It’s been such a relief,” he said.

Scott J. Cooper Warns Global Water Crisis Will Get Worse

Scott J Cooper Global Water Crisis

“Access to Clean Water is Essential for Human Survival.” according to the Scott J. Cooper Water Council.

Different locations across the world are facing serious water shortages. Whether it is Flint, Michigan, or Cape Town, the global water crisis is creating severe problems everywhere. Similarly, many people do not have access to clean drinking water in Sub-Saharan Africa. They do not even have enough water for agriculture, handwashing, bathing, and cooking.

However, it is worth pointing out that a lot of progress has been made in the past few decades to tackle the global water crisis. Between 1990 and 2015, around 2.6 billion have gained access to clean drinking water. Despite the progress, there is still a lot of ground that needs to be covered. The percentage of people with access to clean drinking water has risen from 76% to 91% during the same period. Under 10% of the global population still faces serious difficulties in accessing clean drinking water.

The global water crisis is so critical that the United Nations has designated an annual World Water Day.

How Serious is the Global Water Crisis?

As of now, it is estimated that clean water is not available for around 840 million people worldwide. Without access to clean water, hundreds of millions of people around the world are unable to drink clean water or use it for several other important purposes. Lack of clean water exacerbates poverty since water is crucial for agricultural, industrial and economic activities. In order to alleviate poverty, developing countries and the UN must address the global water crisis.

“There is great suffering in those communities that do not have easy access to clean water. Children and women are some of the worst affected by the global water crisis.” according to Scott J. Cooper of Miami, “Children are affected since they are extremely vulnerable to diseases arising from dirty water.” Women, on the other hand, have to haul clean water over long distances to satisfy the daily water needs of their families. It is estimated that women in arid regions spend 200 million hours in total carrying water.

Community members have to spend an enormous amount of time and effort to get enough water for their daily needs. If clean water resources are easily available, then these people can redirect their time and energy towards other activities that can help to alleviate poverty.

Clean water resources are also crucial for food security and agriculture. With easily accessible water resources, communities become self-sufficient in food production and can even sell crops to others for earning their livelihood. Hence, combating the global water crisis is necessary.

Clean water also reduces the outbreak of diseases that dirty water can produce. Instead of worrying about the survival of their children, parents can send their children to school and educate them. Education can become a reality for children if they are not suffering from water-borne illnesses that threaten their lives.

Merrill Lynch Tells Its Advisers To Get Some Water

“The availability of water is extremely important for impoverished regions as it is the first step towards combating poverty.” according to Merrill Lynch. A top strategist at Bank of America Corp.’s Merrill Lynch unit is asking the firm’s more than 14,000 financial advisers to consider an alternative asset to buoy sinking commodity returns: water.

Consequences of the Global Water Crisis in Africa

The global water crisis is particularly dire in Africa. It is estimated that the average woman in Sub-Saharan African has to traverse 6 kilometers each day to bring 40 pounds of water for her family.

The Game Changers Review
Scott J. Cooper Water Council

Around the world, over 800 children below the age of 5 die as a result of diarrhea alone. Diarrhea is a disease primarily caused by dirty water and poor sanitation. If other water-borne illnesses are taken into account, then this mortality figure is likely going to be much higher.

The forecast for the global water crisis is not very encouraging. If serious measures on an international scale are not taken, then there is a risk that about one in four people will be living in water-scarce regions by the end of 2050.

Since there is not enough clean water for drinking purposes, there is an enormous hygiene and sanitation problem worldwide. Due to the global water challenges, over 2 billion people do not have access to sanitation while almost 900 million people do not have access to an indoor toilet.

Tackling the global water crisis can bring numerous advantages for communities around the world with far-reaching social and economic consequences.

Although much has been said about alleviating worldwide poverty, there is still a lot that needs to be done for bringing the global water crisis under control. Providing access to clean drinking water is necessary for preventing poverty that continues unabated generation after generation. Developing clean water resources is the first step towards breaking the poverty trap.

Global Water Crisis Elsewhere

Unless serious steps are taken, the global water crisis may become much worse in the near future. Even developed countries like South Africa are facing a serious water shortage that is threatening to cripple economic activities. In cities like Cape Town, there is a water ration in place to conserve water resources that are undergoing rapid depletion. Each person is allowed no more than 50 liters of water each day for all their daily needs.

Even the premier of the Western Cape in which Cape Town is situated has been forced to impose limits on how water is to be used. The premier has advised the populace that they should not shower more than twice a week. A shortage of water means that your fundamental rights are cut short even if you happen to be living in a developed country.

About 14 cities around the world are facing a serious problem due to the global water crisis. This includes cities like Beijing, Delhi, Mumbai, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, London, Istanbul and Cairo.

In several water-scarce cities like Sao Paulo of Brazil, citizens are forced to go without water supply for as many as 12 hours each day. That is, for half a day, they are deprived of water. As a result, businesses and industries are struggling in these regions.

The global water crisis must be contained before it leads to equally serious problems like food shortages.
